SD loses a close one, with Kim going 4-for-4 with a walk.

The first problem with the San Diego Padres’ inability to make big offseason investments pay off is their offense.

It hasn’t gotten off the ground all season. The Padres had just beaten the American League East-leading Baltimore Orioles 5-2 the day before to take a 2-1 series lead. The perfect combination of two-hit defense against a postseason contender should have resulted in a W in the first game against the Arizona Diamondbacks, who have struggled in the second half of the season.

Instead, the Padres fell 1-3. The inability to win close games was not cured this time. The batting order was 3-3 for both teams. The score was 3-1 in favor of Arizona’s focus. The Padres were 58-64, while Arizona was 62-60.

Kim Ha-seong, the top hitter in the lineup, was held in check by Arizona starter Zach Galen and the bullpen, going 1-for-4 with a strikeout and a walk, dropping his batting average to .281.

The pitching matchup is a one-hitter. Padres starter Rich Hill, a 43-year-old veteran left-hander who pitched his best game since being acquired from the Pittsburgh Pirates, was hampered by walks and a home run.

In the top of the fourth inning, Hill nailed leadoff hitter Kyle Lewis with a throw from third baseman Ha-Sung Kim. It was a hard hit that didn’t have enough bounce. A batter later, Hill walked Corbin Carroll, the favorite for All-National League Rookie of the Year. He then gave up a two-run homer (#12) to right fielder Tommy Pham, acquired from the New York Mets. Champion spent the 2020 and 2021 seasons with San Diego.

Leading 2-0, Arizona got a solo shot (No. 4) from catcher Gabriel Moreno in the fifth inning that virtually sealed the game. The Padres got a run back in the bottom of the fifth on Trent Grisham’s RBI single to right, but couldn’t put any more pressure on the Arizona mound.바카라사이트

Arizona starter Gallen earned the win (13-5, 3.17) with 6.1 innings of one run on three hits with one walk and three strikeouts, while Justin Martinez was shaky with two walks but struck out three to earn his first save of the season with a four-out shutout.
