After tying the Los Angeles Dodgers’ franchise record the day before (Aug. 8), Freddie Freeman made history today.

Freeman started at first base and batted second against the Washington Nationals at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., today (Sept. 9), going 3-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and a walk to lead the Dodgers to their second straight win.

It was in the fifth inning that Freeman broke the record. With the bases loaded and the score 4-3 in the top of the fifth, Freeman took advantage of a 94.4-mph (151.9 km/h) sinker from Washington reliever Mason Thompson in the middle of the strike zone. Freeman hit it into right field, where he sprinted past the first base line to second base for his 53rd double of the season.

With the hit, Freeman broke Johnny Frederick’s 94-year-old Dodger record for most doubles in a season and moved one step closer to 60 doubles, a mark held by only seven players in Major League Baseball history. Freeman celebrated by doing a big dance after stepping on second base.

Freeman stepped up to the plate again with runners on first and second in scoring position in the top of the sixth inning with a 6-5 lead and drew an automatic walk, and in his final at-bat in the top of the eighth, he retired on a fly ball to center field, finishing the game 4-for-3 with two runs scored and one walk.바카라사이트

Freeman is now on pace to reach 60 doubles, a mark held by only seven players in the majors. The most doubles in a season is held by Earl Webb in 1931 (67), followed by Joe Madwick (1936, 64), George Burns (1926, 64), Hank Greenberg (1934, 63), Paul Warner (1932, 62), and Charlie Herringer (1936, 60).

The last two players to hit 60 doubles were Charlie Herringer and Joe Medwick in 1936. Since then, Todd Helton (2000, 59), Nick Castellanos (2019, 58), and Jose Ramirez (2017, 56) have come close, but none have reached the 60 plateau.
