“San Diego defies the Pythagorean equation” Team leads NL in ERA, 10th in run differential, yet is under 5 wins “Most confusing team in MLB this season”…”Legendary” manager Baker “I don’t get it”
The San Diego Padres have been labeled the most confusing team this season.
Patrick Warren of the Sports Illustrated (SI) channel’s “Inside the Padres” argued on Monday (Sept. 9) that San Diego is defying the Pythagorean formula.
“With one of the most expensive rosters in baseball, the Padres are likely to miss the playoffs as the season winds down, as they currently sit seven games back in the NL wild-card race,” Warren wrote.
He pointed out that Houston Astros manager Dusty Baker, who spoke to the San Diego Union-Tribune, was also confused. “I don’t know why San Diego is struggling, they lead the league in ERA,” Baker said.
“Juan Soto has 28 home runs, and Manny Machado has 26 arches,” Warren said. And Ha-Sung Kim stole 34 bases. Most notably, Ha Sung Kim became the ninth San Diego player to record three stolen bases in a game twice in a season. San Diego is also on pace to miss the playoffs despite having the 10th-best run differential in MLB.”바카라사이트
Warren also quoted San Diego manager Bob Melvin. “We have the ability to score goals and we’ve done it, but sometimes it doesn’t make sense,” Melvin said.
“According to the Pythagorean winning percentage formula calculated by renowned statistician Bill James, San Diego’s record should be 78 wins and 64 losses,” Warren said, “but it’s 67 wins and 75 losses.”
Meanwhile, San Diego lost to Houston 5-7 in a 10-game series. Ha-Sung Kim went 0-for-4 with a walk.
