‘In the midst of a second-half explosion,’ Devers becomes second AL player of the week
Rafael Devers, 27, of the Boston Red Sox, has been named the American League’s hottest player of the week for his second-half hitting surge.
Devers was named American League Player of the Week, Major League Baseball announced on Monday. It’s his second career honor.
In seven games (six starts) over the past week, Devers batted .400 with four home runs, five doubles, five RBIs, eight runs scored, and a 1.586 OPS.
Although the Red Sox lost six of those seven games, Devers shined, most notably with a three-hit performance in game two of a doubleheader against the New York Yankees on April 15.
His numbers have also improved significantly. Through 18 games, Devers is batting .276 with 33 home runs, 98 RBIs, a .355 slugging percentage, and an .876 OPS in 142 games this season.
He’s still short of his career highs from the 2021 season. He hit .279 with 38 homers, 113 RBIs, and an OPS of 0.890.
Devers is the player Boston signed to a massive 11-year, $331 million contract. He’s the type of hitter who can consistently hit a lot of home runs and a high OPS in the outfield.메이저사이트
