MLB Chicago Cubs appoints council manager with ‘5 Billion Five-Year Salary’
After receiving offers from several Major League Baseball (MLB) teams in the offseason, Craig Counsell has decided to move on. He’ll be joining the Chicago Cubs.
The Cubs announced the hire on July 7. MLB.com also broke the news of Counsell’s departure.
The Cubs fired manager David Ross and replaced him with Counsell. Counsell agreed to a five-year, $40 million contract with the Cubs.굿모닝토토 주소
This will make him the highest-paid manager in MLB ($5 billion). Counsell made his MLB debut in 1995 with the Colorado Rockies.
He went on to manage the Florida Marlins (now Miami), Los Angeles Dodgers, and Arizona Diamondbacks before retiring after the 2011 season with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Counsell gained front office experience in Milwaukee as a special assistant to the general manager before taking over as Milwaukee’s manager in 2015 and leading the organization through this season. In his nine seasons in Milwaukee, he has compiled a record of 707 wins and 605 losses.
During that time, they made five postseason appearances and won the National League Central three times. This year, they finished first in the Central in the regular season, but were swept by Arizona in the Wild Card Series, the first game of “fall baseball.
Counsell was out of contract with Milwaukee and interviewed with the New York Mets and Cleveland Cavaliers before signing with the Cubs.
The Cubs went 83-79 this season, losing first place in the National League Central to Milwaukee (92-70) and missing the postseason by a game in the wild-card race.
